Formula 1 is coming back to Africa. A 10-year deal has been announced for a race in Rwanda, with a purpose-built circuit planned in Bugesera, south-east of Kigali, near the country's new airport.
The first race is expected in 2030 at the earliest. The exact date is still to be confirmed.
What happens next
The next big milestones will be the reveal of the full circuit design, the start of construction and, later, a confirmed race date. Ticket information will follow through official channels only. We will update our Road to the race timeline as each step is announced.
It will be the first Formula 1 race in Africa since the South African Grand Prix in 1993, ending a wait of more than three decades.
